Red Team Reflection Rules

  1. Red teaming is not about Murphy’s law, but Murphy’s law does apply 110% of the time.

  1. Red teaming is not about ego, it is about exposing, reducing and eliminating vulnerabilities.

  1. Red teaming is not about being a jerk, its about the red team making the blue team better (and the other way around).

  1. Red teaming is not about thinking like you always do, its about thinking in different ways, from different perspectives, thinking in different boxes and thinking like an adversary.

  1. Red teaming is not just about the other, its about being aware of ourselves, our culture, biases, heuristics and mental models.

  1. Red teaming is not just about ourselves, its about being aware of how we function within groups and the influence that groups have over our behavior.

  1. Assumptions are the mother of all “bleep”-ups…a lot of them anyway.

  1. Red teaming is not just about what we are doing and should not be doing, it is also about what we should be doing and are currently not doing.

  1. If you think you don’t need Red teaming, than you probably really do.

  1. If you are happy with how things are currently arranged, adversaries and issues waiting to jump up probably share that happiness with you.
